Social Events – 2022

Opening Night Social

The opening night social is on Wednesday October 12 at House of Targ.

Join us from 6 to 9 pm. For food and drink, there will be a buffet of traditional and vegetarian perogies, with a cash bar serving a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options, including local craft brews.

But even better: House of Targ has a ton (okay, over 30) pinball and classic arcade games and it’s free play for the whole three hours we’re there. If you’ve saved up your quarters, feel free to linger after 9 and keep playing.

Targ is quite large, so there will be lots of room to spread out. The booking capacity is about twice what we’re expecting, but when bands play there they definitely cram in more (i.e. the booking capacity is lower than the room capacity)! It is in a basement, so no open windows. You can see a video tour of the space, which is quite old but nothing has changed too much!

House of Targ is about 2 km from the Carleton University campus, a 20 to 30 minute walk.

To get there by bus, take the 7 bus from Carleton University (direction: St-Laurent) to the Bank / Sunnyside stop, about an 8-minute trip. The 7 bus (direction Carleton) will also get you there from downtown, about a 20-minute ride.

Thursday Dinner

Thursday Oct 13 from 6 pm, we will convene at Pub Italia, Ottawa’s answer to the question “what if you combined an Italian trattoria with an Irish pub and tossed in a medieval monastery for good measure?” You’ve never asked that question? Well, come see the answer anyway! Access will cover your dinner and non-alcoholic beverages.

Pub Italia is a lovely 2.5km walk from the Richcraft Building (about 30 minutes), but a slightly longer drive (10-15 minutes, depending on traffic).

To get there by transit, take the 2 bus from Carleton University (direction: Bayview) to the Preston/Carling stop, about a 10 minute trip. From the Lord Elgin, take the 14 bus (direction: Tunney’s Pasture) to the Gladstone/Preston stop (about 15 minutes) and walk 10 minutes south on Preston. From the Delta, there are a few options, but the most straightforward is to take the OTrain (direction: Tunney’s Pasture) to Bayview station (about 5 minutes) and then the 2 bus (direction: South Keys) to the Preston/Adeline stop (about 10 minutes).

This is a replacement for the Mill Street Brewery reception announced earlier, but it will be equally (IF NOT MORE!) fun.
