Hackfest

A regular and well-loved Access event. Bring your ideas, your laptops and hack away at projects with your peers!

Digitization Overview and Best Practices

Presenters: Mark Leggott (UPEI) and Don Walsh (Memorial University)

Sept. 23, 9:00am – 1:00pm

Location: Queen Elizabeth II Library, Memorial University

This pre-conference session will provide an overview of the digital library landscape, with a focus on approaches and best practices for any kind of library, regardless of size or budget. Discussion points will include: best practices for digitizing different types of media, a brief survey of systems and tools, approaches to managing a digitization project and team, strategies for generating funds. The day will end with a tour of the Digital Archive Initiative at Memorial University.

Who: Anyone interested in digitizing content and building digital collections

Student registration

We are happy to offer a limited number of student registrations this year. Those who register as students will be asked to show proof that they are or will be enrolled in a full or part-time post-secondary credit program.

Refunds

Cancellations must be received in writing b y August 30, 2013. An administrative fee of $45 will be charged for all cancellations. No refunds will be issued after this date.

Louis-Mathieu Paquin Memorial Fund

This fund is set up in memory of our young colleague Louis-Mathieu Paquin who left a lasting impression at the University of Ottawa Library, Concordia University Libraries, and University of Alberta Libraries, as well as at the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Salzburg. The proceeds will be used to sponsor a conference hackfest participant to cover that person’s $400 registration fee.

Fund applicants should meet of the following criteria:

– You are a full-registration-paying participant who is a librarian / administrative employee in the first three years of your career (in any type of library);

– You were not already fully funded by your institution to attend the conference (you may be travelling on your professional development funding or had partial funding).

Applicants: If you meet the above criteria, as outlined, click “Yes” for Louis-Mathieu Paquin Memorial Fund I am new to the profession (1-3 years) and am attending Hackfest. The draw for the registration fee coverage will happen at the Access Conference.
