FAQ

When will the call for abstracts be open?

Watch for the call for proposals to open on March 1st  2017. We’ll announce it on our news blog, Twitter, and every mailing list we can think of.

I submitted a proposal to Access. When will I hear back about whether I’m selected to talk?

Aren’t you keen? We’re excited you’re excited, but you’ll have to be patient.  We are aiming to contact all applicants in mid-May 2017.

When will the program be released?

If all goes according to plan, we’ll have the program out by June 2017, but we will let you know who the keynote speakers will be, what’s up with the hackathon, and where the best perogies in town are early so you can prepare accordingly.

When does registration open?

Early bird registration will start mid-April 2017 and run until your Canada Day long weekend BBQ (July 1st 2017)

How much will registration cost?

Early bird (April 15th – July 1st) – $350
Regular – 3 days (July 2nd & later) – $400
Regular – 1 day (hackathon included) – $200
Student – $150
Speaker – $300

*all prices in Canadian dollars, does not include GST

Will you be offering any scholarships or financial aid to help alleviate the costs of registration?

We will be offering two all-inclusive diversity scholarships to members of groups that are traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized in technology communities. Traditionally underrepresented and marginalized groups include (but not limited to) those based on gender, race, sexuality, or physical ability.

Applicants for these scholarships must be unable to attend the conference without financial assistance (students, unemployed, underemployed, or working at a company/institution that does not support professional development). Applicants must not have received a scholarship to attend either of the previous two conferences (Access 2015 and Access 2016).

Interested in applying? Please email us a 500-word statement outlining how you meet the criteria, your background and interest in library technology, and how you think participating in Access will advance your personal and professional development.

Check out the diversity scholarship program page for more info.

Additionally, we are offering a special $150 student rate for 2017. Academic identification will be required.

Are you accepting volunteers?

Absolutely! Soon we will be looking for volunteer peer reviewers for the conference proposals (email accesslibcon@gmail.com or tweet us @AccessLibCon ), but there are lots of other things you can do to get involved:

  • Please be a volunteer peer reviewer – it’s fun (and you can put it on your CV).
  • Share the call for proposals/submit your ideas
  • Lead or suggest a workshop/topic for the hackathon
  • Fetch the organizing committee coffee
  • Help with on-site logistics during the conference
  • Hair & makeup
  • Moderate a session
  • Judge for waterslide time trials (must have own waterproof watch)
